Introduction

A Legacy of

Creativity and Curiosity

flNdings began as a conversation between four former students of Corita Kent, and grew to become a storefront gallery within the Warner Grand Theater in historic downtown San Pedro.

From 2005, under the leadership of Annette Ciketic, the gallery hosted hundreds of artists, exhibitions and educational workshops, sold handcrafted merchandise and hosted community events, community events, including fundraisers for altruistic causes.

As of 2025 flNdings is no longer attached to one physical location, instead becoming a nomadic art center that partners with  businesses, institutions and arts organizations to host exhibits, pop up events and workshops.

fINdings Art Center is a 501 c3 non-profit organization.  The name "flNdings" was inspired by the artist Corita Kent's practice of using viewfinders as a tool in arts education, and the "IN" of the art center's name and logo is from one of Kent's serigraphs from 1964.

Corita’s Influence

Creativity as

Experiment and Discovery.

Corita Kent believed that creativity thrives when curiosity, play, and experimentation are encouraged. Her teaching methods emphasized observation, collaboration, and the idea that art can be found in everyday experiences.

Her philosophy continues to inspire the spirit of fINdings Art Center today, encouraging artists and learners to explore ideas freely and approach creativity with openness and curiosity.

PLORK

When Work and Play Become One.

Corita believed that the best creative work happens when work and play come together. She coined the word “PLORK” to describe this idea.

PLORK represents a creative mindset where curiosity, experimentation, and joy are part of the artistic process.

The Finder

Learning to See Differently.

Corita asked students to cut a small window into a piece of cardboard.
By creating the finder it takes things out of context and  allows for slow looking without being distracted. It helps to make visual decisions.
Our name fINdings celebrates the finder.

“Creativity belongs to the artist in each of us. To create means to relate. The root meaning of the word art is "to fit together"and we all do this every day.Not all of us are painters but we are all artists. Each time we fit things together we are creating ―whether it is to make a loaf of bread, a child, a day.”
